La Carnita

Super loud music + delicious tacos = great chill spot to wind down after a stressful work day. Somehow we always end up sitting in front of the window (to avoid 1hr waits..)

Started off with Mexican Street Corn - already salivating from the smell of the crema and chili powder! The corn was sweet and I loved the sauce - wish there was more of it!

For tacos, we ordered In Cod We Trust, Beef Cheek, Carnita and Crab Cake Tostada (Thursday's special) to start, then added the Pollo Frito and Ceviche Tostada. First off I love their tacos - soo soft and thin.

In Cod We Trust Voltron sauce, lime crema, pickled red cabbage, green apple & cilantro - large piece of cod, nice crisp batter and soft fish; this was the spicier one out of the ones we ordered. One of the popular picks, but I liked the other ones more.

Beef Cheek Ancho braised cheek, lime avocado, green cabbage, pickled jalapeño & crispy shallots - these days I find myself ordering beef cheek often though its either hit or miss for me. The beef was soft and paired with the creamy avocado made for a more mellow/soft taco with a pop of jalapeno heat.

Carnita Confit pork, jalapeño sauce, mango salsa, queso añejo, cilantro - it's all about the mango salsa! Fresh, fruity and sweet makes everything stand out!

Crab Cake Tostada - love the crispy tostada, but crab cake was too mushy and not much crab

Pollo Frito Peanut mole sauce, pickled green cabbage & salsa fresca - was hesitant to order fried chicken since it seems kind of plain, but this was surprisingly the best of the night! Crispy, fried chicken, moist, bite sized pieces. Worried the peanut sauce would be too overpowering, but the hot sauce with just a touch of peanut was perfectly delicious! Topped off with tomato salsa, so many different flavor combinations come together wonderfully in this amazing taco!

Tostada de Ceviche Swordfish, guacamole, coconut milk, habanero tomato, cucumber - the typical fresh flavor combo of tomato, cucumber and avocado that I love, but couldn't taste much fish or coconut milk.

For dessert:
Churros w Housemade Cajeta - first time having this was at TUM. by far my fav and best cajeta - the velvety caramel is so good.

Key Lime Paleta - super cute presentation. Lime flavor is refreshing, not overpowering. Topped off with graham cracker crumbs.

Total for 2 people was ~$60.

Verdict: If you don't mind loud bass/hip hop/dark space.. def check this out for great food. Try the Pollo Frito! (and pretty much everything is good!)
